What is Erectile Dysfunction
Erectile Dysfunction or simply called ED is a chronic symptom which can have different causes, and may be temporal or long term. It is defined as an inability to produce, maintain, or sustain an erection. ED can be significantly detrimental to a guy’s self esteem and sexual life, and should be treated as a disease.
Fortunately, most cases of erectile dysfunction are curable, provided there is a desire to cure it in the first place. This malady is a common syndrome of middle or old age, but can also strike a man in his prime. Studies indicate that at least 1-2% of men will suffer from ED at some point in their lives. Almost half of all men between age 40-70 will experience varying forms of erectile dysfunction sooner or later.
There are many forms of treatment for ED these days, but all treatment will first determine if the cause of ED is physical or psychological, and then exclude any physical disease that could be the cause. Physical causes range from hardening of the arteries, side effects of prescription drugs, to low hormone levels, poor physical fitness, and fatigue. In many cases, blood is unable to flow smoothly to the penis, resulting in an inability to obtain or sustain an erection.
Physical causes aside, a third of all erectile dysfunction cases are psychological in nature. Depression, stress, and lack of self worth are all mind related, and can douse the very desire to have sex in the first place. Psychological (and emotional) problems are much harder to resolve, because they may stem from unhealthy patterns of mental conditioning starting from youth itself.
Any treatment for ED needs to consider the overall physical and mental condition of the patient first of all. The treatment should be in combination with a healthy lifestyle. A healthy lifestyle is taken to mean a drug, alcohol, and smoking free lifestyle. This is because a healthy body is firing on all four cylinders, and any treatment method will work much better with a healthy body than one that is not.
Types of treatment for erectile dysfunction
Medications like Viagra do help a lot of men, but its effect is not long lasting, and may have adverse side effects like nausea or dizziness, in addition to not being compatible with some other medications.
Surgery can be explored, but not without its risks. It is also expensive, and needs a long period of recovery time. Penis surgery requires prosthetic implants, or a pump inserted into the genital area which needs pumping up before commencing sex. The risk of permanent damage to the penis should the surgery be botched is a real one.
Other methods of treating ED are mental therapy, penis pumps and herbal supplements. Therapy involves working through the problem with a registered sex therapist, but it is limited to psychological causes, and only for those who are not embarrassed to talk about their sexual problems.
Penis pumps work by inserting the penis into a tube and pumping the penis within the tube to achieve an erection, after which, a ring is placed at the base of the penis to maintain the erection. This is not a satisfying way to have sex, because of the artificial nature of the erection, which may also render sexual intercourse uncomfortable and painful.
Herbal supplements are very useful for treating ED, because they address the problem from within, and may have an effect on psychologically caused ED as well, by naturally raising libido via stimulation of hormones within the body. VigRX Plus is a safe and beneficial way to treat ED.
